Biography
Dania Ramirez spent the first 10 years of her life in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic, before her family relocated to New York City. At the age of 15, she was spotted by a modeling scout while at work, which led to print work and television commercials. Shortly thereafter, she began to study at the Actor's Workshop. In 1999, she graduated from Montclair State University after distinguishing herself as a one of the school’s top volleyball players.

Following graduation from Montclair, Dania Ramirez drove cross country to continue the pursuit of her acting career. She had with her an unlikely but valuable connection, one she made in 1997 while working as an extra on HBO’s Subway Stories, directed by Spike Lee. He would later put her in his 2002 film 25th Hour as well as his 2004 flick She Hate Me. That same year she also scored a role in the live-action film Fat Albert, and in 2006 she landed the role of Callisto in the comic-book film X-Men: The Last Stand.
Most recently, Dania Ramirez could be seen in The Fifth Commandment and the horror flick Quarantine, and she is costarring in 2008’s Brooklyn to Manhattan, a thriller directed by her ex-husband, Jessy Terrero.
dania ramirez on heroes
Prior to joining the cast of Heroes as Maya Herrera, Dania Ramirez had at least two memorable television roles. The first was as a minor character on the final few episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and as recurring character Blanca Selgado on The Sopranos (she broke the heart of AJ Soprano).
Heroes, meanwhile, is in the midst of its third season, and enjoying something of a comeback after a season that many fans felt was something of a disappointment.
