Miss Intercontinental actually began as the Miss Teenage
Intercontinental beauty pageant, which was first held in 1973 in Aruba.
This pageant had changed its name to Miss Teen Intercontinental in 1979,
and in 1982 it became Miss Intercontinental.
It was discontinued in 1984, but resumed in 1986 in Lagos, Nigeria (with
a post-dated title for its second year only). In 1991, there were two
Miss Intercontinental contests: one by Aruban organizers, and a second
by the Nigerian committee.
The Nigerian contest was discontinued in 1991, while the Aruban
continued until 1992, when it began to be produced by German organizers,
who currently produce the Miss Intercontinental Pageant and Dominique
Hourany was elected miss Intercontinental in year 2003
