Kerry Katona May Have Pre-Eclampsia

Ex-Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona is in hospital with what could be pre-eclampsia, according to her publicist Max Clifford.
So what is pre-eclampsia?
It is a complication that only occurs in pregnancy; about 1 in 14 pregnant women will develop it.
It usually occurs later on in the pregnancy, after the 20th week and signs include high blood pressure, protein in the urine - caused by leaks from the kidneys - as well as swollen hands and feet.
It is not known what causes the condition but one theory is that it may be a problem with the placenta: the blood vessels do not develop properly, affecting the transfer of oxygen and nutrients to the baby.
If left uncontrolled, the condition may develop into eclampsia which is life-threatening.
