In a cracking night’s entertainment ‘Simply the Best’ by ‘Tina Turner’ won the hearts and votes of the capacity audience in the hugely successful X Factor contest.

The ‘Tina Turner’ act edged out stiff competition to win the title of X Factor ‘08 winner of the Newport GAA organised contest at the Freigh Inn, Newport which lived up to the high expectations of the build up to the event by delivering a superb night’s enjoyment.

But it was local postman - and former independent County Councillor - Martin Kennedy’s impersonation of ‘Tina Turner’ that just edged out the toughest of competition from a galaxy of well-presented acts thoroughly enjoyed by the capacity attendance at the three hour show which proved to be another winner of the Newport GAA Club.

Such was the level of local interest in the contest, and the clamour for seats that the centre was more than half full at least an hour before the event was due to commence and as the ‘house full’ sign went up there was still scores of people outside the venue, who unfortunately had to be turned away and miss a wonderful night when the local stars shone on stage in their best.
