All things Italian… except Tina Turner

You are… “Mama” Margaret Cowan, owner of a tour company, Mama Margaret & Friends Cooking Adventures in Italy (ItalyCookingSchools.com). “I’m also the author of a wacky little book, How I Fell in Love with an Italian Corkscrew. Don’t worry, it’s not true!”
Describe what your company does: “Since 1995, we’ve been taking food and wine lovers to Italy on cooking and wine tours that are actually fun cultural-immersion adventures with a delicious food focus. You get to know and laugh with a cast of warm local people like chefs, farmers, truffle hunters, winery owners — people you’d never meet otherwise, often in out-of-the-way places. You experience real Italian life in the countryside and have the time of your life.”
Where did you train? “I’m more of a traveller and an eater than a cook. I’ve been travelling to Italy since my backpacking days, 35 years ago; I lived in Italy for three years, speak Italian, and now go there twice a year. I also wrote a guide to Italian cooking schools and visited about 40 cooking-school tours in action, so I learned from my experiences.”
We might also find you dining out at… “Don Francesco Ristorante and Dario’s La Piazza Ristorante Italian Centre. Flavourful, authentic food with interesting taste combinations, and down-to-earth, friendly Italian atmosphere.”
