Shit Lookalikes: Billie Piper and Jade Goody

March 21st, 2008 admin

Billie Piper

Jade’s always been Billie’s evil twin, of course. We’re familiar with how that happened so I won’t bore you with it again (something went terribly wrong with the Replicator, blah blah, since been destroyed, something about good and evil in human form, valuable lesson about playing God…) As you’ll probably recall, their destinies have been tightly intertwined since that fateful day.

And now that Jade’s got herself a swanky new haircut she puts me in mind of a very specific Billie - the one who wore the black wig in the ITV2 show where she played a high class prostitute. The hair piece, it must be said, wasn’t one of Ms Piper’s (Mrs Fox’s) best looks, but on Jade it’s kind of an improvement, I think. What do you reckon? Words “polish” and “turd” come to mind? Or does she look alright?

Laurence Fox: when I met Billie Piper, it was just ‘wow’

March 21st, 2008 admin

Billie Piper

Morse was a mystery. At least, he started out that way. By the end of Inspector Morse’s 13- year-run, we had more or less got the hang of why the over-educated detective so rarely got laid. Now, with Lewis, the series’ successor, hitting its stride, there is a new mystery for viewers. What’s with Hathaway, Inspector Lewis’s tall, blond, theologically inclined sidekick? What killed his sex life? “I don’t have dates,” he told his superior on Sunday.

What does Hathaway do to his colleagues? Lace their tea with bromide? And what of the actor who so compellingly plays him, 29-year-old Laurence Fox? “He was so buff,” a female colleague mourns, fondly recalling his full-frontal nudity in a thriller called The Hole seven years ago. But in recent years he has played loser after loser in love. In last year’s Becoming Jane, a film that rebooted Jane Austen as a Hampshire femme fatale, he played nice but unfanciable Mr Wisley, jilted by Jane. Then in ITV’s A Room with a View he was Cecil Vyse, not a name to win the heart of someone with a Bond girl moniker such as Honeychurch.

Billie Piper’s call girl leads British charge at Europe’s top TV awards

March 21st, 2008 admin

Billie Piper

’s turn as a high-class hooker in the television series Secret Life of a Call Girl last year failed to impress the critics for both its dramatic content and rose-tinted look at prostitution. But the judges at this year’s Golden Rose television festival in Switzerland beg to differ. Both Piper and the series have been nominated for an award in the annual jamboree which is dominated by British programming.

UK productions account for almost half the nominations from around the world – 37 out of 83 – for awards that are widely considered to be as prestigious as an Oscar or Bafta in the world of television.

It is Britain’s public-sector broadcasters, the BBC and Channel 4, that do the best. The UK has six out of 11 nominations for arts documentary, including Channel 4’s A Boy Called Alex about a gifted young musician who battles cystic fibrosis. In the drama category, British titles take six out of 10 nominations. The BBC’s Jekyll starring James Nesbitt will battle it out with ITV’s Secret Life of a Call Girl and the BBC’s The Street, written by Jimmy McGovern and starring Timothy Spall. Both Nesbitt and Piper are also nominated in the best entertainer category, along with comedian Peter Serafinowicz.

Billie Piper reunited with David Tennant in Dr Who

March 21st, 2008 admin

Billie Piper

was the first to admit she was gutted to give up the role of Rose Tyler in Dr Who, and now she’s returned to do three more episodes, bringing Rose back from a parallel universe.

If the rumours are true, Billie is trying for a baby with actor boyfriend Laurence Fox. But with a giant blue puffer jacket like this one, she doesn’t have to worry about concealing any bumps.

davidtennant_drwho.jpgMeanwhile David Tennant, aka Dr Who, is having to leg it left, right and centre from every kind of weird and wonderful creature imaginable in the new series. Nothing new there then.
