CERYS Matthews is showing some bare-faced cheek – by ditching her make-up.

The Pembrokeshire- based singer, 38, is fronting a campaign for Brecon Carreg mineral water, encouraging women to go au naturel for a day to raise cash for the British Skin Foundation.

“We’re so used to all these images of perfection that we’re at the point where we don’t go out without make-up, which is ridiculous,” she says.

“I’ve got a daughter who’s four and she’s make-up mad. She’s into Shakira in a big way. It’s spooky how quickly she’s jumped aboard the ‘sexy painted lady’ look. I want her to grow up knowing she’s absolutely perfect just as she is.

“I like Tilda Swinton not wearing make-up on the red carpet and I hate it when people make fun of that. I think we forget how beautiful we can be without make-up, when you’ve been for a walk in the country and you’re glowing naturally.”

But that doesn’t stop mother-of-two Cerys feeling insecure about her appearance.

Cerys Matthews not arrested earlier today

In an amazing story it has been revealed that Cerys Matthews, 39 from Cardiff in Wales, has not been arrested by Police today.

The second Cousin of Karen, [mother of Shannon, the schoolgirl who disappeared for more than three weeks], Cerys remains the only member of the Matthews family to remain at Liberty this evening.

So far there have been no fewer than 10 arrests within the immediate Matthews Clan. First up we had Michael, Shannon’s Uncle. The former computer programmer, was arrested when Shannon was found by police in the base of his bed. Then came Craig Meehan, Karen’s young lover, charged with having Child Porn on his laptop. Then came the mother herself, arrested for attempting to pervert the course of justice. Throw into the mix Amanda Hyett, Craig’s sister, Alice Meehan Craig’s mum, Peggy Taylor, Shannon’s Step-Auntie from her mother’s second marriage and Lucy Matthews, a cousin from Karen’s fourth marriage and you get quite a collection of Vagabonds and Fly by Nights.

Cerys Matthews still searching for love

Cerys Matthews insists she hasn’t given up on the idea of finding Mr Right.

The Welsh singer recently split from I’m A Celebrity team-mate Marc Bannerman, 34, after arguments over their future, but she still remains hopeful about falling in love.

‘Nobody settles down with someone thinking it’s going to end,’ she tells The Times Magazine.

Cerys Matthews: Wearing no make-up is scary - I’ve got a strange face

When Cerys Matthews went into the I’m A Celebrity camp there was one great fear on her mind. The snakes? The spiders? The prospect of John Leslie being parachuted in as a surprise guest? Nope. It was the thought of being seen by millions without a scrap of make-up.

‘Going bare-faced was scary because make-up is the first thing I put on if I’m going out and the first thing I pack when I’m going away,’ says Cerys. ‘But soon it was the least of my worries because I was so hungry. If I’d had a lipstick, I’d have eaten it.

‘I actually found it liberating not to have to worry about clothes or make-up. I embraced being my natural self, only wearing one outfit and being scruffy and dirty.’

Cerys is now fronting a campaign for Brecon Carreg mineral water, encouraging women to go au naturel for a day to raise cash for the British Skin Foundation.

A few doors down at the Harbour Inn, rugby tops the conversational agenda, too, but across the road at the Farmer’s Arms, a different subject concerns the soignées members of the Haverfordwest Ladies Circle, newly arrived for one of their regular fundraising dinners in aid of Withybush Cancer Ward. Exactly why is Cerys Matthews, former hell-raising rocker and reality TV star, lurking nervously behind the pillar in the bar? It is not that she is a stranger to this stretch of the Pembrokeshire coast – her parents have lived near here for 20 years – but never before has she turned up at one of these get-togethers.
