YouTube controversy for Katherine Jenkins

April 21st, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

’S representatives last night confirmed they had started legal action to remove the singer’s image from an online video produced in support of the extremist British National Party.

In a four-minute video posted on website YouTube on March 8, by a user calling himself “Egbert Saxon King”, the Welsh mezzo-soprano’s image is used in a bid to stir up opposition to plans to build Wales’ largest mosque in Cardiff.

Featuring designs apparently lifted from the website of the Madina Mosque in the Cathays area of the capital, the video claims the mosque would lead to the “Islamification of Wales” and uses a series of dramatic images to contrast stereotypical images of Muslims with stereotypical images of Wales. An image of riots in Bradford, for instance, is contrasted with a tranquil North Wales street market scene.

Katherine Jenkins goes back to her roots

April 21st, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

CLASSICAL opera star has revealed a more “religious” direction to her career on her forthcoming album.

The glamorous mezzo soprano yesterday spoke of her excitement at finishing recording the last in her current six-album deal.

She said: “I can’t believe I’m doing my sixth. It only seems like yesterday I was doing my first, but it’s been four-and-a-half years.

“This album is going to be more religious and sacred with the songs I learned as a chorister. It’s nice because it’s the last one and I feel like I’m going back to the beginning, a full circle.”

Jenkins also told ITV’s This Morning show how she is gearing herself up for a bigger and better version of the sell-out show Viva La Diva, with award-winning ballerina Darcey Bussell.

Katherine Jenkins: La Diva does Marilyn

April 21st, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

Blonde, with a stunning hourglass figure, the mezzo-soprano , 27, has an image a world away from the stereotype of a classical artist. I had dinner with her recently and watched as every male in the room gazed admiringly at her sinuous form as it wiggled across the room in high heels and a red sweater dress. But Katherine, who lives in north London, is largely oblivious to the open mouths she leaves in her wake.

KATHERINE JENKINS: I’M NO BRITNEY

April 2nd, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

Singing star has said she will not turn into pop stars like Spears, despite her classic albums having more of a pop flavour than in the past.

The Neath-born mezzosoprano once claimed she could never see herself singing pop songs but her most recent album, Rejoice, has shown she is now willing to branch out.

Rejoice features tracks by writers who usually contribute to albums by pop mega-stars , Westlife, and , but now it seems that Jenkins is ready to overcome her inhibitions to set her own pop standard.

“My music is getting closer to pop but it’s still not there, it’s still me,” the star said.

“I’m happy to take pop songs and sing them in my style, adapt them to my genre, but you are never going to see me being .”

She admits that her sound is very accessible, but says she will always remain a classical girl at heart.

Katherine Jenkins Rejoices with GenQ

April 2nd, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

Less than five years ago, mezzo-soprano was providing singing lessons for ten pounds each. Now, after signing a 1 million pound record deal, the highest ever for a classical entertainer, Jenkins has re-written the history books across Europe. GenQ Music Editor Leigh May spoke with Katherine about her new album entitled Rejoice.

Hi Katherine, how are you today?
Hi Leigh, how are you? I’m good, thank you.

How are you enjoying Australia so far?
Oh, it’s wonderful! I’ve never been here this time of the year. It’s usually much, much colder, and I even went to Bondi yesterday. It’s a bit cloudy today, but it was so hot yesterday, so yeah, I’m having a great time.

There would have been a few nice bodies on the beach yesterday too then?
Haha, yeah, we had a great time, haha!

Your new album, Rejoice, has songs on it, such as “Somewhere” from West Side Story, Shirley Bassey’s “I (Who Have Nothing)”, and “Kiss From A Rose” by Seal, though your versions give a new take on these classic tracks. How do you select a song that you want to cover?
Well, I always have to bear in mind whether the song is going to translate well into a classical arrangement, and usually I choose them firstly because I like them, they’re songs that I’ve loved and wanted to sing myself, but you have to think “how is this going to sound if I’m going to translate it, if I have the big orchestral parts written. With “Kiss From A Rose”, to me, the chords already sounded quite medieval, so I wanted to really use that, and see how we could translate it into more of a classical piece. I really enjoyed that, it’s a really great song to begin with, so that one was lots of fun.

Designer sees Katherine Jenkins in a range of her own

April 2nd, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

would be an ideal choice to front the next collection, says A-list Welsh designer Julien Macdonald.

The likes of supermodel and singer have brought out successful high-street collaborations in recent years, but so far no one from Wales has joined them.

Now Julien, a friend of Katherine’s, says the 27-year-old singer would be a perfect candidate.

He said, “Katherine has an effortless elegance about her, she’s idolised by men and by women all over the world and she’s a fantastic role model for people.

“She loves colour, she loves clothes and she loves design.”

Although she is well established as one of the country’s most important classical stars, in recent months Katherine has been gaining a reputation in the world.

Katherine Jenkins gets new London pad

April 2nd, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

WELSH siren is quitting the green, green grass of home for good.

The Neath-born mezzo-soprano has spent the past year renovating a house in North London so she can make the capital her permanent base.

But that doesn’t mean she’s forgotten her Welsh roots – there’s one luxurious bedroom saved specially for her proud mum Susan when she visits.

And another room will have every fashionista’s heart pounding – with a huge walk-in wardrobe to store the star’s spectacular stage dresses.

Katherine, 27, whose Cardiff-born Blue Peter presenter boyfriend Gethin Jones also lives in London, has already signed up at her local LA Fitness gym so she can maintain her perfectly toned curves.

“She has made the house fabulous and she’ll move in soon,” said a source.

“Katherine is building a huge walk-in wardrobe for her stage dresses and is adding a bedroom for her mum to visit.”

While the finishing touches are applied to her fabulous new house, Katherine – who has just released her autobiography Time to Say Hello – is busy in the studio recording new material and has added more dates to her Viva La Diva tour with ballerina Darcey Bussell.
