says shooting her new movie was the most frightening experience of her life.

The actress had to sing in ‘The Edge of Love’, in which she plays Vera Philips the lover of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, and admits she found it incredibly tough.

Keira said: “I did some lessons with a voice coach because I can’t sing. It was live. There were 100 extras and the director John Maybury was like, ‘Now you’re going to sing.’

“I’ve never been so frightened in my entire life. I never want to do it again. I don’t want to be a rock star. ”

Thomas biopic to headline Edinburgh film festival

The Edge of Love, a film about the life and loves of the poet Dylan Thomas, has been selected as the opening night gala for this year’s Edinburgh international film festival. It is directed by John Maybury and stars , Matthew Rhys and .

This year’s film festival runs from June 18-29. The Edge of Love is due to open in UK cinemas on June 20.

English babe  was spotted out and about in the Soho district of London yesterday, trying to keep dry in the pouring rain.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” actress wore a checkerboard-pattern wool “Sound of Music-esque” coat and a warm knit hat as she chatted with a male friend.

And it sounds like Keira may be branching out from her film career into the world of music.  She’s recorded three songs for her new film “The Edge of Love” and she sounds pretty hopeful that she may be onto something.

Keira Christina Knightley was born on 26th March 1985 to actor Will Knightley and actress turned playwright Sharman MacDonald. Growing up in the backyard of such fine creative people meant that she grew up with big aspirations and got all the necessary education on acting at home itself. ACTRESSES Kiera Knightley and are to open the Edinburgh International Film Festival this year.
They will be joined by actor Matthew Rhys and director John Maybury at the premiere of The Edge of Love – a biopic of Dylan Thomas. Knightley and Miller play two free-spirited woman who are both loved by the Welsh poet – played by Rhys.

EIFF artistic director Hannah McGill said: “I couldn’t be happier to be opening with this utterly seductive and fascinating film.

“It stars some of the most charismatic young performers in the business and affirms John Maybury as one of our most important directors.

“It’s a film I adore, and opening with it is the perfect expression of our commitment to intelligent, impassioned new filmmaking.”

The film will be eligible for The Michael Powell Award, which is judged by an international jury recognising the best new British feature film and carries a substantial cash prize.

Keira Knightley drama ‘Silk’ among winners at Quebec’s Jutra Awards

MONTREAL — “Silk,” the lush period drama starring and Michael Pitt, was among the big winners at Quebec’s Jutra Awards on Sunday night.

The film - the first from director Francois Girard since 1998’s acclaimed “The Red Violin” - won awards for cinematography, art direction, costumes and sound. The Jutras honour the best in Quebec cinema.

“Continental: un film sans fusil” (”Continental: a Film Without Guns”) took home some of the night’s most coveted prizes, including the best award as well as best director and best screenplay trophies for Stephane Lafleur.

A quirky look at the intertwining lives of four people, “Continental” marked Lafleur’s feature-length directorial debut. It was also nominated for a best award at last week’s Genie Awards.

‘Atonement’ wins hat-trick of Empire awards

Wartime romance Atonement has won three prizes at Empire magazine’s annual awards ceremony, including best British film.

Its stars and were named best actor and actress after missing out at the BAFTAs and Oscars.

Keira, who was voted for by readers of the British film magazine, beat off stiff competition from , , and Cate Blanchett.

Atonement was the big winner on the night, with named Best Actor and the movie scooping Best British Film.

The Bourne Ultimatum was named Best Film, and star Matt Damon collected the accolade with director Paul Greengrass.

Matt said: “I want to say thank you to the readers of Empire because I don’t get many awards and I don’t get nominated for a lot of awards but when I do I tend to lose out to more younger, talented, better-looking guys like .”

It’s the first time the British actress has used her singing voice for a movie soundtrack- she’s previously admitted it’s not her strong point.

Keira said: “I can’t really sing I had to have a few lessons, but once I started doing it, a sound emerged that wasn’t too disagreeable.”

The Edge Of Love is written by Knightley’s mother and is the story of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. It also stars and Cillian Murphy.
