Designer sees Katherine Jenkins in a range of her own

April 2nd, 2008 admin

Katherine Jenkins

would be an ideal choice to front the next collection, says A-list Welsh designer Julien Macdonald.

The likes of supermodel and singer have brought out successful high-street collaborations in recent years, but so far no one from Wales has joined them.

Now Julien, a friend of Katherine’s, says the 27-year-old singer would be a perfect candidate.

He said, “Katherine has an effortless elegance about her, she’s idolised by men and by women all over the world and she’s a fantastic role model for people.

“She loves colour, she loves clothes and she loves design.”

Although she is well established as one of the country’s most important classical stars, in recent months Katherine has been gaining a reputation in the world.

English soccer goes after curved Lily Allen

March 18th, 2008 admin

Lily Allen

is being pursued by an English soccer star who is obsessed with her womanly curves.

The ‘Smile’ singer - who split from Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons in January after suffering a miscarriage - has been “bombarded” with phone calls from Jermain Defoe, who is known for his success with women.

A source close to the Portsmouth star told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “Jermain is done with skinny blondes and thinks curvy Lily would be perfect. He thinks she is the perfect mix of ghetto and posh, and he also likes her curvy a** too.”

However, 22-year-old Lily is said to have her eye on someone else - ‘Harry Potter’ star Rupert Grint.

Portsmouth footballer Jermaine Defoe wants Lily Allen to be his WAG

March 18th, 2008 admin

Lily Allen

Yes, you read the headline right.

According to Mirror.co.uk a source close to Jermaine Defoe says the Portsmouth footballer is done with skinny blonde types and is looking for someone of the more curvy variety.

Apparently BBC 3’s version of Oprah Winfrey, the lovely , would be perfect for Jermaine.

But how long would Lily’s uniquely playful style last if she dated Charlotte Mears’s ex-fiance?

I reckon the Smile singer would be hitting fake tanning booths across London in weeks, shortly followed by synthetic hair extensions (blonde, of course) and endless shopping trips.

“She picked up the call and I heard her say: ‘Why am I answering his phone? Because he’s rather occupied at the moment. Is there something you want?’”

Orange Prize real issue is the choice of Lily Allen as celebrity judge

March 17th, 2008 admin

Lily Allen

If there is one thing that makes me wish to quit the august and extremely pleasurable position I hold as literary editor of The Times it’s the annual debate about the merits of the Orange Prize. A prize for women authors: Sexist Con-Trick (as Tim Lott has it) or Force For Good? You choose.

Here’s where I stand. Get over it. Not, Get Over It You Awful Men and Let Us Redress Centuries of Repression Through the Virtues of Our X-Chromosome-Only Prize! I mean, get over it, in a broader sense.

Get over the idea that prizes given to novels – of any kind, stripe, gender or nationality – can, in any way whatsoever, be described as “fair”.

I have told this story before but I will tell it again. When Arundhati Roy won the Booker Prize for The God of Small Things, she told the assembled throng that she was honoured and humbled to have won the prize – not least because, she was sure, five different judges would have chosen a different book. How right she was, and how wise to remind us of the inherent subjectivity of this endeavour.
